Gpa's Marlboros
As I was reading "Twenty Ads that Shook the World"...the marlboro ad campaign was enticing until I remembered that's what my Grandpa smoked. The cowboy displays were charming and enduring men. Grandpa wasn't a cowboy, but he definitely had that badass "I don't give a care" attitude. Part of that facade is most definitely from his generation...born during the depression and worked through the war. I would go over to his smoke filled apartment to listen to his stories about bombs going off when they were up in the air. I wonder if they smoked in the plane when they were fighting? I wish I could ask him why he smoked marlboros. But I am content knowing that he was an independent like the marlboro man. He would say anything, no filter (hah-literally). My favorite line after he was diagnosed with lung cancer , "but I didn't inhale". Grandpa...you've been smoking since you were twelve! It took a while for it to sink in that he was/did kill himself... it's such a sad reality that advertising could have saved a generation of smokers...if only they knew how bad it really was for you.

chatroulette.com
Last night I went to the SMU v. Ole Miss hockey game (we won in overtime shootout which was saweeet!...the rest of the game sucked though-not enough FIGHTING!). Went to GLORIAS for some margs and a little dinner. Throughout the meal my buddy keeps texting me...
Come over! We're playing this awesome game! (He wouldn't tell me the name of the game but eluded it was a drinking game...) SOLD.
I arrive at their apartment and don't see any game pieces (minus a bobit). "You guys brought me over her to play BOPIT!?" They laughed and told me to sit down on the couch. I'm sitting between friend one and friend two curios to see what game we're going to play on a computer (lame I thought). They gave me a pair of sunglasses to put on because it "makes the game more fun". I'm greeted by a face on the computer, it's a live video image and they are waving...don't know this person. Then it switches to a group of guys who are looking at me... my friends encourage me to play bopit...that way the strangers are more engaged and talk to you, or just watch you (creepily). So this game they brought me over is not bad actually, surprisingly fun! If you like the person you're talking to you can keep talking, if you don't like them you click the "next" button. I didn't take offense if they switched, just kind of chuckled. My favorite strangers to talk to were the other lonely bored college students who were playing this game!
IDEA: advertise on chatroulette.com! It would be a great way to start a viral ad.
PLAY!

Find Tuning
"Find Tuning"
Whistles of sand, gravel and wind,
Swooping through cinder blocks, tapping on tin.
Stadiums distant-- a hum of the crowd,
turn up my speaker and balance off those clouds.
Climb up ladders to reach for this view,
atop Meadows pondering, brewing a stew.
Escape routes and chaos lead up to this roof,
it doesn't stop here-it's only a spoof.
Churning and mixing the sounds in my head,
slowly start whispering what should be said.
Bugs land and take off to start their flight,
flapping and flapping and flapping in spite.
flapping and flapping and flapping in spite.
Top shelf its placed but only a small piece,
this cinder blocks tuning itself to a beat.

My Creative Process
I see an idea...I go towards it... and climb the "ladder of possibilities". The ladder has many different slides (routes of churning out an idea). There is route A, B, and C-Z which basically is the slide alluding to an infinite amount of routes. The idea then "sinks" or "floats" in the "pool of ideas". The sinking idea rests on the bottom of the pool, but could be "brought back to life" if needed later on in the process. Out of the floating ideas, the one that makes the biggest SPLASH is the idea I go with. The sun represents everything going on in my creative mind (technique, motive, colors, process, style, tools, etc.) and outside of my mind (what inspires me, goals for the idea, clients, observable things, problems, etc). Then the idea(s) "evaporate" into a product. The cloud acts as "condensation" where the product I (and possibly others) let the product/idea marinate, we tweak it, alter it, it takes time, but is perfect in our minds and ready for submission. Then I "MAKE IT RAIN". The product rains into the world where it is either a)approved by the "dude sticking his tongue out to taste it or b) rejected by the "umbrella of rejection".
Patent: SHOWER ART
We all take showers (hopefully) and the majority of us are too familiar with the hair falling out incident. It clings to your fingers, sticks to the walls, and gets in the drain!
options:
a) Leave it there.
b) Let it slide down and clog the drain.
c) Strategically place it on the wall.
d) Make SHOWER ART!
For the past few weeks I've been making designs with my excess hair on the shower walls. Some of them I don't even try and they come out cool!

For the past few weeks I've been making designs with my excess hair on the shower walls. Some of them I don't even try and they come out cool!
Turns out my idea wasn't that original... here is a photo I found on google
(what a PERVE!)
Although, the tiles and colors are not far off from my photo:
So to make it more "ARTLY" I changed the colors in photoshop so it wasn't so yucky looking.
I looked online to see if there were already patents for "shower hair collecting devices"...unfortunately there are...HOWEVER my idea is to have large waterproof post-it like pads that you can stick on your shower wall. For each shower, you get a different color pad with different tile designs and colors. When you take your hair out and stick it to the pad, there you have it SHOWER ART!
Tagline ideas:
"Mess up the canvas... not the drain!"
"Mom never said you can't play with your hair!"
"Why play with your food, when you can play with your hair?"
"SHOWER ART...the new rubber ducky"
"Tired of cleaning out those hair clogged drains? try SHOWER ART, disposable artwork and no mess!"
"The best part about SHOWER ART: keep the shower Art or throw it away (and guess what else gets thrown away?? THE HAIR!)"
"Teaching your kids good clean fun with SHOWER ART"

The KIA ad by DAVID & GOLIATH resonated the most with me as far as "intertextuality".
( Intertextuality- refers to understanding and interpretation derived from connecting old and new cultural text)
More specifically, the ad displayed "vertical intertextuality".
(Vertical Intertextuality- Connections b/w old and new cultural texts across multiple genres create meaning.)
The ad made me want to hop in a car and go on a roadtrip! I though back to road trips I'd taken with my friends...the best road trips were obviously better when we had a spacious, comfortable car (preferably with
a skylight). The KIA looked like it had all of the above plus, not one, but TWO sky lights.
There was a specific scene when they were walking into the Vegas hotel that looked like it was from a shot of Oceans 11 or THE HANGOVER. This is one example of vertical integration because I associated a movie with the advertisement. Another example was the robot dancing and the mechanical bull (brought me back to some mixers).
Overall, it instilled a FUN vibe and made me want to hop in a KIA and take a roadtrip! This thought that I want to do something in the future (like take a road trip) could be analyzed from the perspective that I was motivated by the Advertisement (which is another example of Vertical Intertextuality).

Remember when the SUPERSOAKER 2000 came out? I must have been in third grade. My best friend Ellie and I would take this sucker-I mean soaker, to the pool and go CeRAAAZZY! I want to bring these childhood toys back. WHY USE BULLETS WHEN YOU CAN USE WATER? Over winter break I was hanging out in my studio (aka the basement) which has piles and piles of junk. Mom and Dad are kinda pack rats-fine by me because I always had the coolest dress-up clothes. Authentic. Period. None of that party warehouse costume stuff. But I'd just dig through a trunk and find one of mom's old prom dresses (that she hand made). Something about hand made. Her sewing machine still sits in the basement- I sould paint that next. But the supersoaker was just lying around and I thought-why not paint this!? It's certainly sellable. (ok, so I was going to give it to this guy I liked..but that became past tense LIKED...thought I liked...he liked guns...and apparently liked his own gun a little too much, but anywho... Now it's in my room at the Pi Phi house and all the girls are like "WHAT'S THAT?" and I'm like... oh goodness didn't you have one? Apparently not. But I think this is sellable Art because what college guy wouldn't want a shiny gun, I mean super soaker hanging above his mantle place? If anything, it's a good conversation starter. I actually exchanged cards with the owner of MOMO's Italian restaurant and he lets people put their art up on his walls to sell ...going to make a phone call tomorrow. I cranked this baby out in like 4 hours! If I sell it for $175 I think that's pretty reasonable. What do you think?
